A Simple Guide to Resetting Your Car's Timing Belt Light

Assalamu Alaikum, readers of The Auto Pulse! Today we are looking at a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX. A common question we get is about the "T-BELT" warning light on the dashboard.

If you have recently replaced your timing belt, or if the light has turned on after hitting 100,000 km (or 150,000 km), you need to reset the maintenance counter manually. A scanner tool will not reset this light!

In this guide, I will show you the hidden button combination to reset the Timing Belt light on your Toyota Prado. Watch the full procedure below.

1. Important: Select ODO Mode

This is the most common mistake people make. Before you start the procedure, turn the ignition ON and press the Trip Button until the display shows the Total Mileage (ODO).

⚠️ Warning: If the screen is on "Trip A" or "Trip B", the reset will NOT work. It must be on ODO.

Once you are on ODO, turn the Ignition OFF.

2. The Reset Button Sequence

Follow these steps carefully:

  1. With the ignition OFF, press and HOLD the Odometer Reset Button (the stick on the cluster).
  2. While holding the button, turn the Ignition ON (Do not start the engine).
  3. Keep holding the button for 10 Seconds.
  4. After 10 seconds, release the button and immediately press it again once.

3. Setting the New Interval

After pressing the button, the mileage display will change to a number (e.g., 1, 10, or 20). This represents the mileage interval for the next warning.

Example:
10 = 100,000 km
20 = 200,000 km

Press the button repeatedly to cycle through the numbers. In the video, we set it to 20.

Once you have selected your desired interval (20), Press and HOLD the button again. Keep holding it until the display reverts back to the standard Odometer reading.

4. Verification

Turn the ignition OFF, then start the engine. Look at the dashboard:

Result: The T-BELT light should now be OFF. You have successfully reset the maintenance reminder!
